Help with Blogging!

Getting started.

  • There have been several problems with posting on the Blog. I’ve tried re-sending everyone an invitation to join the blog. If you never receive the invitation, please email me at bwiley@will.state.wy.us.
  • If you receive the invitation, please follow the link. For those of you who already had an account set up, Blogger might recognize your IP address and automatically sign you in. This should provide you with the opportunity to change your password and your user ID if you need to. However, if Blogger does not recognize you and automatically sign you in, proceed with creating a new account and choose a new user ID and password. If neither one of these things happen, let me know and we’ll try again or try a different way.

Posting on the blog

  • Once you have received your invitation and chosen your user ID and password, you should be able to post on the blog, to edit your previous posts, and to comment on other people’s posts. To do this, go to Blogger.com and sign in with your user ID and password at the top right hand side of the page.

  • After you sign in, your web browser should take you to “The Dashboard” for our blog. On this page, you can access the blog by clicking on our blog name, Library Staff Room. You can also post a new message by clicking on the green plus sign underneath “New Post.”

  • If you click on the green plus sign, your web browser will take you to a page where you can create a new post. The box on the page is similar to the one found on our www.librarystaffroom.pbwiki.com. The blog page, however, has more options for formatting at the top. You will find basic commands like in a word processing document, such as the buttons that allow you to change the type of font you use or change the color or align the text to the right, for examples. The two buttons that are going to be new to you are the green globe with what looks like a paper clip on top and the picture of a mountain and blue sky.

Adding links

  • The green globe with the paper clip adds links to other websites to your text. If you click on this button, a new window will open that will provide you with a place to enter a website address. You can either enter the website address manually, or you can open another Internet Explorer web browser window and visit the website you want to add. Highlight the web address in the address bar at the top of your web browser. Once the address is highlighted in blue, right click your mouse and choose “copy.” Go back to the Blogger post page; in the Hyperlink window provided after you click the green globe with a paperclip button, right click your mouse in the URL box. Choose “paste” and the web address should appear. After you have entered the address, click the OK button on the side. This link will be automatically inserted into your text.

Adding Pictures

  • The mountain with a blue sky button adds pictures to your text. If you click on the mountain with a blue sky, a new window will open that will provide you with a place to enter either a website address or to browse files from your computer. If you choose to use an image from the web, please check out the link entitled “Learn More” about using web images. For a web pictures, you enter the URL address to the picture you want to use, choose a layout and a size and click “upload image.” To choose a picture from your own files, click the “browse” button. A new window will open where you can go to the file you want to use. Double click on the picture you want to use. Again, choose a layout and a size and click “upload image.”
